Ellen DeGeneres: "I like chickens, but I'm bored"

Ellen DeGeneres: "I like chickens, but I'm bored"

More than three years after saying goodbye to the famous couch on The Ellen DeGeneres Show , where so many celebrities sat for two decades, the American comedian is now in a new phase of her life. In the town of South Newington, in the United Kingdom, she lives isolated from the spotlight with her wife, Portia de Rossi, after being "kicked out of the entertainment world," as she stated last year .

A source close to DeGeneres told CNN that the comedian isn't retired, though she's enjoying adapting to a slower pace of life. Last year, she also appeared on Netflix with a special just over an hour long, " Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval , " which was presented as the final word on her turbulent career. A year later, the source says DeGeneres has been meeting with writers and producers, keeping her options open.

Earlier this month, the comedian announced a series of events, In Conversation, which will take place in five British cities and may eventually amount to a short tour that will serve as a rehearsal for a possible return to television. Until then, she will remain in the British countryside, while, according to CNN, raising chickens and keeping sheep away from her property . "I want to do something," DeGeneres said in July, adding, "I like my chickens, but I'm a little bored."

"Being in this business, I've had to worry about what people think," he said during the Netflix episode. "It's our only real currency for success. If they like you, you're in. And if they don't, you're out... When you're a public figure, you're open to everyone's interpretation."

On the air for nearly 20 years, The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended in 2022 after 19 seasons. The announcement came from the host herself in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter after, the previous year, the show's behind-the-scenes working conditions were investigated following allegations of abusive practices by the host and other staff. The season following the scandal (the show's last) saw a drop in ratings.
